Here Is Cristiano Ronaldo Goal Celebration Name, Meaning And Origin
Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal celebration name is called “siu!”, also spelt as “siii” or “siuuu!”. The name is derived from the Spanish word “siu” and means “Yes” in English. Ronaldo adopted the “siu” celebration while playing for Real Madrid FC.
This 36-year-old footballer who is famous for winning numerous Champions League, Premier league, Spanish league, Ballon d’Or etc, has successfully written his name in the sands of time as one of Football’s greatest of all times (GOAT).
The origins of Ronaldo’s celebration are a little more illogical, but the move has taken on greater meaning among fans in recent years.
Ronaldo said in an interview in 2019 that “I started to say ‘si’, it’s like ‘yes’, when I was in Real Madrid.”
He further said “When we would win, everyone would say ‘siiiii’ and so I started to say it. I don’t know why, it was natural.”
Ronaldo’s trademark goal celebration sees him perform a mid-air pirouette before exclaiming “si!” (sometimes spelled “siu”) – which is Spanish for “yes!” – upon landing. It is an expression of delight at scoring.
The ‘si!’ celebration has become synonymous with Ronaldo in the later part of his career and he first began performing it when he was at Real Madrid.
He famously screamed “siiiiii!” on stage at the 2014 Ballon d’Or ceremony after collecting the award ahead of perennial rival Lionel Messi, prompting a mixed response, with many left disoriented by the outburst.
People use to say back then that it was the celebratory shout of the Real Madrid team. It is quite clearly his trademark and he continued to use it when he transferred to Juventus. He also uses it till date.
How Ronaldo Does His ‘Siiii’ Celebration
Before Ronaldo does famous “siiiiii” celebration he need to run, jump, turn in mid-air, then throw his hands down to the side before he lands.
The position of his legs when landing is crucial too, they must be spread wide in a ‘power stance’ and ideally he will have his back to the crowd, thus displaying the name on his shirt.
Once he completes the pirouette, he then scream the word “si!” to complete the celebration.
